Here we will list examples, case studies, and direct information
submitted by you the user as to how they went about their person
search.
Here are a few tips for searching when you know little to nothing
about the person you are trying to find.
If you are trying to find someone, but you don't know that
much about them, it can become stressful coming to all of those
dead ends. If you ever find yourself in this situation, try these
tips for extra help.
The "Linking Others" Method
This method can be used on social networks, such as Facebook and
Myspace. In this method and you can't find someone you are
looking for, search for other people you know the person you are
looking for also knows. This way, you are finding a "link
person" to you and the person you are looking for. If you
can find your person on the link persons, then you are good to go.
If you can't find them, there's a possibility they are
not a user on this social network.
The "Acquaint Activities" Method
This method can also be used on social networks, but also the internet
general. In this method, you can use some activities the person
you are looking for may be involved in to find the person. For example,
if you see someone walking on a college campus wearing an organization's
sweatshirt, he most likely belongs to the organization written on
the sweatshirt. If you go to the internet and search for that organization's
website, there will probably member information and pictures. You
can use this information to find the name of the person you are
looking for. From there, you can search other places for your person.
Similarity, these methods can be used in reverse to become more
formally acquainted with someone you are already friends with on
the internet, especially on a social network. If you have already
"be friend" someone on a social network, but would also
like to establish a real-life relationship with this person, some
investigation work may be required.
First of all, use there user page for direct hints
about the person, and his or her interests. From the main user page
you are most likely to find out what the person's hobbies are, what
types of organizations/activities the person belongs to, where the
person works or goes to school, how old they are, favorite types
of music and movies, and much more information if they are willing
to share.
Secondly, social networks allow people to post
pictures and blogs about their lives. If you have the time to read
the person's blog or look at their pictures, you can probably find
out a lot more about them.
Thirdly, try to determine if you two share any
friends. If you and the person you are looking for share a few friends,
that makes it easier to start a friendship.
Lastly, use these tools to start a conversation
in person, or behind the keyboard (because most likely you will
be able to get their screen name from their user profile!) to build
a friendship, ask a question, or even take out on a date.
